 Introduction of D-Ribose

    D-ribose was produced by microorganism fermentation in this project. It was used as intermediate of Vitamine B2 and years ago chemical synthesised from glucose requiring mercury electrode which maybe polluted environment. In order to  get over these limitation, fermentation of D-ribose began to study and since eighty years production of D-ribose went over with the transketolase deficiency strain of Bacillus subtilis instead of chemical synthesis. In recent years, this technique was applied to the preparation of  Vitamine B2 in some factory in our country.

    As the development of nucleic acid pharmacy, especially the potential function of antiviral and anticancer, D-ribose had large market as the original material of kinds of nucleic acid pharmacy. For example, ribavirin and Thymidine can be produced from D-ribose instead of inosine and the cost would decline much. It was estimated that the market needed 300T/year in our country. It was calculated that, in the production of thymidine from D-ribose instead of inosine, every year the cost could be saved $4 million according to 30T thymidine/year. D-ribose also could be used to produce fluoxon (a novel anticancer medicine) and antiviral intermediates of 5-methyluridine,cytidine, uridine. In addition D-ribose can be used to therapy heart ischemica and increase the ability of the burden of  heart ischemica and enhance the whole function of the heart. D-ribose application has been shown to be beneficial in some clinical states, such as kinetic muscle ache, stiff because of deficiency in myoadenylate deaminase and muscle pain for absence of phosphorylase in cells. It was reported that D-ribose had some clinical effect to deabetes. Thus it has large market if developed as functional food. Recently foreign client continuously seek company that can stably provide D-ribose in our state.

    The technique is the harvest of Enzyme laboratory in East China University of Science & Technology. The strain was introduced from ATCC. The fermentation yield can reach to 65g/L D-ribose in  shaking flask and to 90g/L in pilot reactor(20T) and separation yield can reach 80%. We had prepared no color syrup containing 80% Ribose. The crystal' s quality is above 98%( according with standard ajimiso). Because there is no toxic and bad reagent in crystal, the product can be eat directly.

    D-Ribose has better exploiture foreground and has large market. The economic benefit will approved to be maximum.
